NEXT-GENERATION stem cell therapy has brought scientists a step closer to a treatment for thousands of people with various degenerative diseases.

'At the present time there is no effective therapy to various diseases and stem cell therapy at least has a reasonable chance of slowing the progression of the disease,'' Professor Hinton, a principal investigator with the California Project to Cure Blindness, says.

It is not overambitious to believe that stem cell therapy could one day replace the expensive, painstakingly protracted and routinely ineffective conventional therapy for treating multitude of acute and chronic aliments and in doing so finally assume its rightful position at the pinnacle of therapeutic medicine.
