Your baby is growing

At 24 weeks, your baby growth continues to be steady. Almost a foot long, he looks lean, but he will soon start to put on weight. Organs like the brain is growing rapidly. What’s also developing are his taste buds. His lungs too are developing branches, which will later form the respiratory tree. The lungs are also producing cells that produce surfactant. This substance will help his air sacs inflate when he comes into the world. Now his skin might be pale and translucent. This however will change and is only a temporary phase.
Your life at 24 weeks

Through weeks gone by, the top of your uterus has gone above your belly button and is as big as a soccer ball now. From 24- 28 weeks, pregnant women go through a glucose screening test. This test is crucial for checking on gestational diabetes. Don’t let it worry you. It is a pregnancy related high blood sugar condition. If this condition remains untreated, it could lead to a difficult vaginal delivery or a cesarean. This happens when your baby becomes too large especially in his upper part of his body. There could also be other complications like low blood sugar in your baby after birth. If your glucose screening test is positive, it is not necessary that you have gestational diabetes. What it means is that you have to take the glucosetolerance test. Make sure that you learn the signs of preterm labor and visit your Doctor when you notice these signs.
