Cancer Treatment using Dendritic Cells

Cancer, which is is still a leading cause of death in the world, is a condition where cells in a specific part of the body grow and reproduce uncontrollably. The cancerous cells can invade and destroy surrounding healthy tissue, including organs. It sometimes begins in one part of the body before spreading to other areas, a process is known as metastasis.
The causative factors could be toxic substances, radiation, genetic abnormalities etc. When the factors causing the cancer cells are overwhelmingly powerful against the immune system, the disease becomes full blown.
What are Dendritic Cells?
Dendritic cells (DCs) are potent antigen presenting cells that form an important part of the immune system. These cells are the only cells in our body that have the capacity to induce a primary immune response. They have received scientific and clinical interest due to their key role in anti-cancer host responses.
How Does ReeLab's Cancer Treatment Work?
Dendritic Cell approach to cancer therapy takes advantage of the normal role of the dendritic cell as an immune educator. These cells are naturally present in every person’s bloodstream and is a blood cell. Their usual function is to identify a foreign substance, including cancer cells, process them and bring about an immune response by bringing the foreign substances to the attention of the rest of the immune system (mostly T lymphocyte cells). The activated immune system is then able to circulate throughout the body and destroy the foreign particles. However, in cancer, the immune system often fails. The tumours affect DC maturation and differentiation and induce a generalized failure of the host to mount an effective anti-tumour response.
Our protocol focuses on enhancing the dendritic cells artificially and transfusing them systemically which target the antigens (cancer cells) better and are able to mount an immune response.

4 Step Treatment Schedule
- Peripheral Blood and tissue sample is collected.
- The sample is sent to our Laboratory for processing.
- After processing for the specified number of days, the processed Dendritic Cells are sent to the hospital where the patient is admitted for transfusion.
- The processed cells is administered Intravenously, after which the patient needs to stay under observation in the hospital for a few hours.
