What is Stroke?
A stroke is a condition where brain cells die due to interrupted or very low blood supply to a part of the brain. Low or no blood supply deprives brain tissues of oxygen and food. It is a medical emergency which needs to be treated with prompt action. Early action can save complications.
A stroke is caused by a blockage in an artery or a leaking blood vessel. Another reason can be when a blood clot (thrombus) forms in an artery supplying blood to the brain. This clot may be a result of fatty deposits that build up in arteries. An unhealthy lifestyle can lead to a range of reasons to create a blood clot or disruption of blood vessels, which can lead to a stroke.
You should watch out for these signs and symptoms if you suspect a stroke:
Sudden dizziness or a stumble while walking.
Trouble in speaking as well as understanding. Also confusion, slur in speech.
Difficulty in balancing parts of your body and face.
Trouble in vision, such as a sudden blur.
A sudden, severe headache.
A stroke should not go untreated for long, as it may damage the brain and cause disabilities. For an effective treatment, get treated at a hospital within three hours of your first symptoms.
Stem Cell Therapy for Stroke
Stem cells are known to have a tangible application in Stroke. They are postulated to induce neurogenesis (regeneration of the affected portion of the brain matrix) and consequently bring about a significant reversal of symptoms. The infusion of these cells improves blood and oxygen ow to the brain (improved perfusion), replaces damaged neurons and stimulates formation of the new arteries. Improvement is reached through restoration of the lost (impaired) neuronal connections and formation of the new neuronal connections; speeding up brain reactions through improvement of synaptic transmission and development of the new neuron connections.
The patient can feel improvement in sensorimotor symptoms, including muscle spasticity, weakness, gait problems, speech, and equilibrium defects after therapy.
